The American Dental Association recommends having a dentist perform a dental checkup and cleaning every six months. This is intended to help maintain the health of your mouth while also catching any cavities, oral cancers, or periodontal health problems before they have a chance to worsen.

Dr. Alma Vallderuten will monitor the health of your teeth as part of the routine dental checkup. If she notices a problem with the strength of your tooth enamel Dr. Alma Vallderuten might recommend administering a fluoride treatment.

If Dr. Alma Vallderuten has further concerns about the strength of your teeth, or you don’t have ready access to fluoridated water, she might provide you with a prescription for daily use fluoride supplements. These are available in several different forms including sublingual tabs, gels, mouth rinse, or a concentrated fluoride toothpaste.

If she provides you with a prescription for an ingestible fluoride supplement it will need to be taken as directed. If Dr. Alma Vallderuten prescribes concentrated fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash you should apply them your teeth or rinse your mouth right before going to bed.

It’s best to apply them to your teeth at a time when you can avoid eating or drinking anything for at least half an hour. This will allow the fluoride to fully saturate the microscopic pores of your tooth enamel.

If you live in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area and you have concerns about the strength of your teeth, you should call 954-491-5748 to explore your fluoride options available at Vallderuten Dental Associates.
