Do you ever feel confused about fluoride? If so, Dr. Alma Vallderuten and our dental team are more than happy to help you! We would love to clear any confusion by answering frequently asked questions about fluoride in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
What is fluoride?
Fluoride is a natural mineral that can be found in many natural resources, like water and certain foods. This mineral can strengthen and nourish your teeth and keep your smile in tip-top shape. It can also help you avoid tooth decay and enamel erosion, which can also help you avoid tooth sensitivity and damaged teeth.
How can I get fluoride?
You can nourish your teeth with fluoride by drinking plenty of tap water (cities usually fluoridate their water to benefit their residents), using fluoride toothpaste, taking/using fluoride supplements, and receiving a professional fluoride treatment.
What is a professional fluoride treatment?
A professional fluoride treatment is typically provided after a routine dental cleaning and exam. Our dental team will use a fluoride foam, gel, or varnish and will paint the fluoride onto your teeth or will fill a mouth tray with fluoride and place it on your smile. While you wait, the fluoride will dive into your teeth and strengthen the enamel. Once the time has passed, you will rinse your mouth with fresh, cold water.
